Why does a person come for counselling? Well it can be for many reasons. Perhaps they have experienced some trauma in their lives – the death of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, something unexpected, or even shocking, that has caused them to review their lives in a way that they had not anticipated. Sometimes, it is not that something has happened but that they want something to happen. Whatever the reason, they have reached a crossroads in their lives. They want to make a change but don’t know how to. Perhaps they are scared to take that first step. But one thing is clear, if they come for counselling, change will almost certainly happen. Perhaps in the way the person imagined … perhaps not … perhaps in a different way. Counselling allows us to look at our lives, shift our thinking and make the changes that we want to make. It is not necessarily an easy journey because change can involve loss – but it is also about gains. Gains which can ultimately lead us on a more fulfilling and rewarding life journey.
